A Jackson, Mississippi, Author Using Poetry and Storytelling to Empower Black Women
For Cynthia LeAnn, the power of storytelling began in childhood. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Cynthia discovered her passion for writing at an early age, filling journals and tablets with her thoughts, poems, and stories. What began as a childhood passion soon blossomed into a dream of pursuing writing as a lifelong career.
When Cynthia entered college, she began taking her craft to new heights, publishing her work with small local companies in Jackson. These early opportunities helped expand her reach, sharpen her skills, and open doors for her growing literary career.

Determined to share her voice with the world, Cynthia actively participated in local open mics and writing competitions, where her talent and dedication earned her recognition. She proudly secured first-place honors in poetry at Tougaloo College and Hinds Community College. She also participated in Jackson State University’s annual Margaret Walker Creative Arts Festival, further establishing her presence in the local literary community.
Cynthia’s commitment to storytelling extended beyond poetry and creative writing. With a desire to strengthen her voice as a writer and storyteller, she pursued journalism studies at Tougaloo College, continuing to develop her craft and explore new ways to connect with readers through the written word.

In July 2024, Cynthia reached a significant milestone in her literary journey with the publication of her self-titled book, Pieces of Me: I Have a Story to Tell. This heartfelt collection of short poems and stories was created with Black women on a journey toward healing in mind. Through her words, Cynthia offers readers an opportunity to reflect, connect with their emotions, and find comfort in knowing that their stories deserve to be told.
Cynthia LeAnn’s journey is a testament to the power of nurturing a dream and remaining committed to one’s purpose. From the pages of childhood journals to the publication of her own book, she continues to use her gift of writing to create meaningful connections and inspire others.

Through poetry, storytelling, and her dedication to the written word, Cynthia reminds us that healing can begin when we give ourselves permission to speak, write, and embrace every piece of who we are.
