Mississippi continues to solidify its place in music history. Through the recently passed Mississippi House Concurrent Resolution 60, the state has officially been recognized as the home and birthplace of Southern Soul music — a genre deeply rooted in blues, gospel, soul, and Southern storytelling. Among the names acknowledged for helping elevate and expand the culture of Southern Soul is influential radio personality and DJ Vince “Bigg V” Roberts.
For Bigg V, the recognition is both humbling and emotional.
“For my name to be mentioned in a state legislative action is surreal to me,” he shared. “The biggest blessing is to be recognized as one of the people who helped move the genre forward. I wasn’t aware that state legislators even knew my name, much less how influential I am in that genre. I’m just glad to be one of those names listed.”
Known throughout the South and beyond for his dedication to music, artist development, and community impact, Bigg V has spent more than two decades building a reputation as one of the most respected voices in urban and Southern Soul radio. Through airplay, promotions, live events, and industry relationships, he has become a driving force behind helping artists gain exposure and expand their audiences.

“I help Southern Soul artists through airplay, promotions, and relationships with other promoters, like the Syndicated Southern Soul Mix Show Brown Liquor Music, even if I don’t benefit from it directly,” V explained.
His influence reaches across generations of Southern music. Bigg V has been credited with helping preserve the legacies of legendary Mississippi blues artists including BB King, Bobby Rush, Johnny Taylor, and Little Milton, while also supporting the modern movement of Southern Soul stars such as Tucka, King George, 803 Fresh, Arthur Young, Big Yayo, and many more.
Beyond Southern Soul, Bigg V has also played a major role in breaking records and introducing hit music from some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Rick Ross, T.I., Yo Gotti, Future, 2 Chainz, Young Dolph, Boosie, and Big K.R.I.T.
“I have been able to change the lives of a lot of artists,” Bigg V said.

His impact has not gone unnoticed. In 2022, the Southern Entertainment Awards (SEAs) recognized his influence and dedication by naming him the #1 DJ in the South — an honor that reflected not only his music industry success but also his commitment to philanthropy and community service.
Most recently, Bigg V expanded his platform even further after being promoted to a drive-time slot on Power 106.5 WAID-FM in Clarksdale, Mississippi. That opportunity later evolved into another major primetime position at Jammin’ 104 WCLD-FM in Cleveland, Mississippi, extending his reach across a 150-mile radius through a powerful 50,000-watt signal and online streaming audience.
“The move to these two stations is major,” he explained. “It’s not only more exposure for me, but the best part is that artists and businesses have the opportunity to get a broader audience for their businesses, services, and events to gain exposure to the public.”

While his voice continues to dominate Southern airwaves, Bigg V says his mission has always been bigger than radio.
“I want to entertain my listeners, but I want to make sure I can be of service as much as I possibly can,” he said. “The bigger my brand can get, the more services I can provide for businesses, artists, and my community. That’s what I’m about.”
As Southern Soul continues to rise across the country, Bigg V remains one of the culture’s most trusted ambassadors — using music, media, and influence to uplift artists, connect communities, and ensure the sound of the South continues to thrive for generations to come.
