Gen Reed Richards is an emerging force in gospel music, boldly preserving the richness of traditional gospel while inspiring a new generation of believers. A devoted psalmist and motivational speaker, Gen’s mission extends far beyond music—she is committed to uplifting hearts and advancing the message of Christianity through every platform God places before her. Known for her genuine love for people, she embraces her calling as a vessel used to edify God and strengthen communities.
Gen’s faith journey began at the age of 13 when she accepted Christ and became a member of Sharon AME Zion Church. Today, she worships at New Home Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Neal Roberson, who also serves as her executive producer. At New Home Ministries, Gen faithfully serves on the praise and worship team as well as the finance committee. Her dedication to gospel music has also led her to become a proud member of the legendary Mississippi Mass Choir.
Throughout her career, Gen has shared stages and studios with notable gospel greats, including Paul Porter, Crystal Aiken, Tina Campbell, and Brian Courtney Wilson on the Mississippi Mass Choir’s latest album, We Still Believe. She was also part of the overdub team for the project recorded at Malaco Records—an album that produced two number-one songs nationally. Expanding her artistry beyond music, Gen appeared as the lead actress in Bishop Neal Roberson’s powerful music video, “Stay with Jesus.”
Beyond ministry and music, Gen is deeply committed to service and leadership. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Order of the Eastern Star, Anderson Chapter 119, and strongly believes in the power of community service. Her guiding philosophy is simple yet profound: with God’s help, one person can rise as a general to meet the needs of a hurting world. She also serves as an official staff member for the Golden Triangle Awards under the leadership of Freddie Poindexter. In recognition of her vocal excellence, Gen was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2025 Mississippi Gospel Music Awards, earning a spot among the top four finalists.
Gen’s commitment to excellence is equally evident in her academic achievements. She is a graduate of Hinds Community College, where she earned a certificate in Dental Assisting Technology in 1993. She later received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Belhaven University in 2005, followed by a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration in 2008. In December 2025, she earned a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Jackson State University, graduating in the top 15 percent of her class as an honor student. She is also a student member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals and the Rehabilitation Association of Mississippi.
Family remains one of Gen’s greatest blessings and sources of strength. Married for 26 years to her husband Eric Richards—who also serves as her manager—she credits family as the foundation of her success and “water to the soul.” Together, they are the proud owners of FO YO Glory Entertainment. Gen is also the devoted mother of two children, Lyric and Eric, whom she lovingly refers to as her “heartbeats.”
In February 2025, Gen released her debut single, Delighted, which was featured on Pop Gospel Radio by the Little Prince of Gospel, Stevenson Clark. She was also honored to appear as a guest artist on Bobby Jones Presents in January 2025, with the episode now airing in syndication.
Above all, Gen wholeheartedly accepts her calling to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ worldwide. She pays tribute to her late grandparents, Ben and Essie Reed, whom she credits as foundational pillars in her upbringing. With unwavering faith, undeniable talent, and a heart for service, Gen Reed Richards continues to walk boldly in purpose—using her voice, her life, and her platform to glorify God.
