Born on October 20, 1984, Lil Rounds is a powerhouse American singer, songwriter, and recording artist whose journey from Memphis, Tennessee, to national acclaim is nothing short of inspiring. Best known as a standout finalist on Season 8 of American Idol, where she secured a Top 7 finish, Lil captivated audiences with her soulful, commanding voice.
Her performances earned high praise from Idol judge Simon Cowell, film director Quentin Tarantino, and platinum-selling artist Queen Latifah, with whom she later performed the electrifying duet “Cut the Rain” on the show’s grand finale.
After her breakout on American Idol, Lil embarked on a nationwide tour and made memorable guest appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Larry King Live, and numerous radio and television outlets across the U.S. Rooted in gospel and influenced by the rich musical traditions of jazz, funk, doo-wop, and soul, Lil’s sound is steeped in authenticity and emotion.

Her early inspirations include legendary artist Ann Peebles—who mentored her as a child—and her grandfather, the late Sylvester Mackey, lead guitarist for the great B.B. King.
Over the years, Lil has signed with Bluff City Records and Bungalow Records, but today she takes full creative control through her own production company. Her single “Stiff Drink” is available on all major platforms, and fans are eagerly awaiting her forthcoming music, set to debut in February 2025.
Beyond the stage, Lil is also the founder of the Mosaic Institute of Performing Arts (MIPA), a nonprofit dedicated to artist development, music education, and preparing young talents for the entertainment industry. MIPA’s signature event, The 12: The Ultimate Southern Vocal Competition, is slated to return in 2025, continuing its mission of spotlighting Southern vocal excellence.
Lil Rounds lives in Memphis with her husband and four children, gracefully balancing life as an artist, entrepreneur, wife, and mother—proving every day that soul, strength, and purpose are at the heart of her music and mission.
